Sabrina Carpenter has hit back at critics who have expressed concern she is overexposing herself.
The 26-year-old American singer enjoyed global success last year when she released her sixth album, Short n’ Sweet – for which she is on a promotional tour until late November.
In August, she will release her seventh album, titled Man’s Best Friend, even though she is effectively still plugging her 2024 record.
Addressing criticism she is at risk of overexposing herself, Carpenter told Rolling Stone, “If I really wanted to, I could have stretched out Short n’ Sweet much, much longer.
“But I’m at that point in my life where I’m like, ‘Wait a second, there’s no rules.’ If I’m inspired to write and make something new, I would rather do that.”
She continued, “Why would I wait three years just for the sake of waiting three years? It’s all about what feels right. I’m learning to listen to that a lot more, instead of what is perceived as the right or wrong move.”
Hinting she is trying to make the most of her continued popularity, she said, “I try not to get sad about the fact that nothing lasts forever, but genuinely, it’s such a beautiful time right now. I want to soak it up and keep making things while I’m feeling this way.”
While Short n’ Sweet was a worldwide number one smash album for Carpenter, her first five albums flopped in the charts.
Last week she surprised fans by releasing her latest single, Manchild, which is the lead track from her forthcoming new album.
Man’s Best Friend is due for release on Friday 29 August 2025 via Island records.
